IAU 100 km World Championships
The IAU 100 km World Championships have been held annually since 1987, at different locations, and is organized by the International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU). Due to lack of sponsorship, the 2013 event, planned for Jeju Island, South Korea, was cancelled and the 2014 event, originally due to be held at Daugavpils, Latvia, was held instead in Doha, Qatar. Jarosław Janicki
Jarosław (; uk, Ярослав, Yaroslav, ; yi, יאַרעסלאָוו, Yareslov; german: Jaroslau) is a town in south-eastern Poland, with 38,970 inhabitants, as of 30 June 2014. Situated in the Subcarpathian Voivodeship (since 1999), previously in Przemyśl Voivodeship (1975–1998), it is the capital of Jarosław County. History Jarosław is located in the territory of the old Polish tribe of the Lendians. According to tradition, the town was established in 1031 by Yaroslav the Wise, after the area was annexed from Poland by the Kievan Rus', although the first confirmed mention of the town comes from 1152. Saroma, Hokkaido
is a List of towns in Japan, town in the Okhotsk Subprefecture, Hokkaido, Japan. The name comes from the Ainu language, Ainu place name ''Saro-oma-pet'', meaning place of many Miscanthus sinensis, miscanthus reeds. As of January, 2013, the town has a population of 5,617 and a population density of 14 persons per km². The total area is 404.99 km². History Saroma was established in 1894 as part of the Japanese expansion into Hokkaido. The first permanent Japanese settler was Jingorou Suzuki, who homesteaded near present-day Hamasaroma, on Saroma Lake. The following decade saw the establishment of a city hall, a railroad, agricultural zoning, and the building of roads. In 1914, the Saroma area was established as Tofutsu Village. Palamós () is a town and municipality in the Mediterranean Costa Brava, located in the ''comarca'' of Baix Empordà, in the province of Girona, Catalonia, Spain. Valmir Nunes (born January 16, 1964) is a Brazilian runner. A former world record holder, he currently holds South American and Brazilian Ultramarathon records. Career Nunes initially found success in the distance race, winning the world championship in 1991. He also placed first in the U.S.A. National 100 Kilometer Championship, finishing before the first American. In 1995 Nunes set the world record with a time of 6 hours, 18 minutes and 9 seconds in Winschoten, Netherlands. His record was not broken until 1998. Nunes has also been successful in longer races. In 2001 he won the Spartathlon in Greece in a time of 23 hours, 18 minutes and 5 seconds. He is a former record holder at the Badwater Ultramarathon. In 2007 he was the first runner to finish the race in less than 24 hours, setting a course record of 22 hours, 51 minutes and 29 seconds.
